APOS Executive Committee meets in South Korea, inducts Iranian Association of Orthodontists as 19th member
The Executive Committee of the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society met in Gyeongju, South Korea on October 29, 2017. The APOS is an affiliate organization of the WFO with 19 specialty organizations in the Asian Pacific region. The APOS executive committee is led by Dr. Bryce Lee, president.

The meeting was hosted by the Korean Association of Orthodontists at its 50th Annual Scientific meeting. Announcements included the induction during the meeting of the Iranian Association of Orthodontists as the 19th APOS member, and the formal ratification of the APOS Foundation.
Also during the meeting, APOS leaders announced that Honorary Fellowships of APOS were awarded to Dr. Renato Africa, Dr. Loh Kai Woh, Dr. Fu Minkui and Dr. Young Chel Park. The honorary fellowship of the APOS is the highest honor accorded by the society.
APOS Trends in Orthodontics Editor in Chief Dr. Nikhilesh R. Vaid also announced the Journal Awards. These awards have been named in honor of Dr. Fu Minkui, Dr. Renato Africa, Dr. K Jyothindra Kumar, Dr. Hendro Kusnoto and Dr. Loh Soo Ann, important leaders of APOS constituent societies who have made many contributions to the APOS.
The award winners are:
∙Fu Minkui APOS Trends award for the best clinical article (2015 -16):
Orthodontic management of a periodontally compromised dentition - Zaveri Prashant (Vol. 6 No. 1).
∙Renato Africa APOS Trends award for second best clinical article (2015 -16)
Orthosurgical management of an asymmetric case with class III malocclusion and transversal problem in the maxilla - Juan Carlos Perez Varela, Beatriz Iglesias Sanchez (Vol. 6 No. 3).
∙Jyothindra Kumar APOS Trends award for best Original research article (2015 -16)
Evaluating condylar head morphology as it relates to the skeletal vertical facial dimension: A three-dimensional semi-automated landmark study - Curtis Contro, Arthur J. Miller, David Hatcher, Snehlata Oberoi (Vol. 6 No. 5).
∙Hendro Kusnoto APOS Trends award for second best Original research article (2015 -16), shared by:
- Plaque accumulation and Streptococcus mutans levels around self-ligating bracket clips and elastomeric modules: A randomized controlled trial - Dhaval Fadia, Meghna Vandekar, Nikhilesh Vaid & Viraj Doshi (Vol 5 No 3).
- Root resorption following periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics Donald J. Ferguson, Irelia Machado, M T Wilco, W M Wilco (Vol. 6 No. 2).
∙The Loh Soo Ann APOS Trends award for Best Clinical Pearl /Innovation article was not awarded. However, a Certificate of Merit in this category was awarded to:
Three-dimensional canine loop for management of buccally erupted canines - Praveen Mehrotra, Jitendra Bhagchandani, Sonahita Agarwal, Anchit Thukral (Vol. 5 No. 5).
Best Reviewer awards for 2015-16 were presented to:
- Dr. Mark Wertheimer (South Africa)
- Dr. Jayesh Rahalkar (India)
- Dr. Laith Makki (United Arab Emirates).
The jury for the awards was comprised of Dr. Keiji Moriyama, Dr. Mubassar Fida and Dr. Tanan Jaruprakorn.
