Joining the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) is a straightforward process that brings significant value. Membership Eligibility
To be eligible for WFO membership, you must be a fully credentialed orthodontist. Non-specialists are not eligible. Student members must be enrolled in an accredited orthodontic specialty program. Exceptions include non-orthodontic faculty members and WFO Honorary Fellows, who are recognized for significant contributions to orthodontic education, research, and technology.

Fellow
Application Requirements
- Must be a member in good standing and maintain membership in a WFO-recognized national affiliate society of orthodontists or, if none exists, make individual application to the WFO.
- Must pledge to support the Federation’s principles and objectives.
- Complete an application and submit it with the application fee.

Student Member
Application Requirements
- Must be a full-time student in an accredited postgraduate orthodontic specialty program.
- Certification is required from the educational institution and the respective WFO-affiliated national organization.
Have you graduated and need to change to active membership?
Non-Orthodontist Academic Member
Application Requirements
- Must be engaged in full-time education or research related to orthodontics.
- Certification is required from the educational institution and the respective WFO-affiliated national organization.
Honorary Fellow
Application Requirements
- Nominees must have rendered outstanding service to orthodontics.
- Nominations are reviewed by the Executive Committee, which elects members by a two-thirds vote.
Retired Fellow
Application Requirements
- Must be retired from active orthodontic practice or full-time teaching.
- Must have been a Fellow, Honorary Fellow, or Non-Orthodontist Academic Member for ten years before retirement.
Member Reinstatement
Previous members can easily reinstate their membership by updating their application and submitting the dues for the next membership cycle. There are no penalties or extra fees for missed renewals.
