“Being appointed as the editor-in-chief of the JWFO, I understand the commitment I hold to the readers and authors, as well as the organization,” said Dr. Krishnan, who is professor and head of the Department of Orthodontics at Sri Sankara Dental College in Trivandrum. “With the backing of the World Federation of Orthodontists, a highly recognized professional body, along with the support of its affiliate organizations, the journal holds a huge potential for development. Under the leadership of Dr. Jorge Faber for last five years, the journal has become recognized as one among the major orthodontic publications, and I assure the WFO members that I will try my best to uphold the quality of the publication and bring in content suitable for clinicians, academicians and students alike. While I establish my editorial team, I will make sure to bring in personnel with proven expertise so that the content published is unbiased, well-accepted and has the potential to advance the orthodontic literature.”

Since 2007, Dr. Krishnan has served as the associate editor of Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research. He also served as associate editor of the Journal of Indian Orthodontic Society and has been a guest editor for several issues of Seminars in Orthodontics. In addition, he has also edited three books published by Wiley-Blackwell and has served as a reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Dr. Krishnan has also published numerous research papers in refereed journals and contributed chapters to several books.

Dr. Krishnan earned his master’s degree in dental surgery from the University of Kerala in 2001 and obtained membership (M.Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) of Edinburgh in 2007. In 2012, he earned his doctorate in orthodontics from the University of Kerala and completed his fellowship in dental surgery at RCS in 2013.

“Dr. Krishnan has extensive editorial experience, and his passion for editorial work really stood out during the interview process,” said Dr. Amanda Maplethorp, WFO vice president and chair of the search committee. “He describes it as his life’s ambition and rises early every morning to work on his editorial projects before anything else.”

The WFO’s editorial search committee and Dr. Allan Thom, WFO president, will formally introduce Dr. Krishnan to WFO affiliate presidents on April 23, 2017, during a breakfast reception at the 2017 Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists in San Diego, California, USA.

“We enthusiastically congratulate Dr. Krishnan on his appointment,” Dr. Thom said. “The whole of the Executive Committee welcomes him to the ‘team.’ The Executive Committee was put to a difficult task to select the next editor-in-chief of the JWFO. A plethora of worthy, highly respected and qualified colleagues put their name forward for this position. It was very difficult to select one ‘apple’ from a basket of ‘perfect apples.’

“The Executive Committee also appreciates the five years of service Dr. Jorge Faber of Brasilia, Brazil, dedicated to the JWFO. He certainly served with distinction in his role as editor-in-chief. We also appreciate the time he has devoted to the transition process and as a consultant to the search committee.”
