Ronald S. Moen, who served as the WFO’s first secretary general (1995–2000), passed away on May 12 at the age of 85.

Mr. Moen served as executive director of the American Association of Orthodontists from 1989–2001. During 1994–1995, as AAO leaders, including then-President (the late) Dr. William DeKock, planned to initiate the WFO during the 1995 Annual Session in San Francisco, Mr. Moen assisted with the formation processes.
After 69 organizations from 62 countries signed the original WFO charter, Mr. Moen became the secretary general. He continued to work closely with Dr. DeKock, who became the WFO president, and Dr. Lee W. Graber, who served as the first WFO vice president.
Educated as a psychologist, Mr. Moen entered the association sector as founding CEO of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. He submitted his resignation from the AAO in 2001 to accept a position as CEO of the American Dietetic Association. His professional activities also included leadership positions with the American Society of Association Executives and the Association Forum.
Mr. Moen is survived by his wife, Jan, two adult sons, and three grandchildren. Learn more about his life and funeral arrangements.
