Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists

The JWFO, launched in May 2012, is a unique online publication dedicated to presenting clinical articles and scientific research results in orthodontics and related fields. It also serves as a forum for discussing this research, enhancing the impact of each article. The WFO Gazette

The WFO Gazette is published three times per year for the primary purposes of updating members on key WFO news and providing progress reports on ongoing WFO initiatives, updates on member benefits, and highlights of the upcoming International Orthodontic Congress. Gazette content helps affiliate organizations and members become better acquainted through reports on affiliate meetings, feature articles on individual members with unique interests outside of work, career profiles of WFO award recipients, and more. An updated list of upcoming affiliate meetings is included in each issue. The Gazette is an online-only publication, and live links to resources are included for reader convenience.

Webinars & Continuing Education Lectures

The WFO hosts a monthly webinar series featuring guest speakers and moderators who present one-hour live lectures online. These webinars cover a range of topics relevant to orthodontic professionals. Each session is recorded and added to the WFO’s extensive online education library, which also includes past lectures from International Orthodontic Congresses (IOCs) and other WFO-sponsored events.

Education Guidelines & Credentialing Boards

Guidelines for Postgraduate Orthodontic Education

The WFO’s Guidelines for Postgraduate Orthodontic Education, established through global collaboration, were published in 2009 and updated in 2023. These guidelines serve as a universal standard for orthodontic specialty program educators and related institutions to evaluate and compare their curricula. The guidelines aim to:

  • Educate postgraduate students on delivering the best orthodontic treatment.
  • Encourage the development of new orthodontic postgraduate programs in regions lacking such education.
  • Promote excellence and innovation in orthodontic training by supporting evidence-based practice and incorporating the latest advancements in research and technology.
  • Stimulate discussions on best practices, quality assurance, and professional ethics in orthodontics, fostering a stronger sense of community and standardization in training programs.
  • Inspire a new generation of orthodontic professionals committed to excellence, integrity, and patient-centered care.

Society of Orthodontic Specialty Certifying Boards (SOSCB)

The SOSCB plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of orthodontic treatment worldwide. It is a standing committee consisting of a chairperson from the WFO Executive Committee and presidents or special appointees from professionally recognized orthodontic certifying boards globally. The SOSCB aims to:

  • Improve orthodontic treatment quality by encouraging orthodontists to achieve board certification.
  • Invite and encourage national orthodontic specialty boards to join the SOSCB.
  • Assist in forming new national orthodontic specialty boards in countries without such certification organizations.
  • Provide a collaborative forum for member boards to exchange ideas and improve orthodontic education, treatment, and certification processes.
  • Act as an advisory committee to the WFO Executive Committee, giving national boards a voice within the WFO.
