Dear Esteemed Colleagues,
As 2024 draws to a close, I extend my deepest gratitude for your unwavering dedication and shared commitment to advancing the orthodontic profession globally. This year has been a defining chapter in the World Federation of Orthodontists’ journey—a testament to resilience, innovation, and our collective pursuit of excellence.
We have witnessed remarkable growth, welcoming new members and expanding through affiliate group memberships. This expansion underscores the enduring spirit of collaboration and unity that defines the WFO, strengthening our global network and reaffirming our mission to serve as the unified voice of orthodontics worldwide.
This year, we launched pivotal initiatives such as the “Global Orthodontic Educators Directory”, a resource designed to foster mentorship, collaboration, and knowledge exchange across borders. It stands as a beacon of our commitment to empowering educators and practitioners alike.
The orthodontic landscape continues to evolve, shaped by transformative technological advancements and the growing emphasis on holistic care. These developments challenge us to lead responsibly, ensuring that evidence-based protocols remain our compass in a time of commercial influence and competing agendas. To this end, our task forces are preparing impactful position papers on critical topics, including environmental sustainability and professional online engagement, to guide our specialty forward.
Our global awards have seen enthusiastic participation, celebrating excellence and inspiration across the profession. From the “Tom Graber Best Paper Award of the JWFO”, to the “Lee W. Graber Changing Lives Award”, the “Athanasios Athanasiou Best Thesis Award”, “Roberto Justus Travel Scholarships” to the “Allan R. Thom Art Awards”, these honours exemplify the depth of talent within our community. We are especially proud to announce the forthcoming launch of “FLOS – Future Leaders in Orthodontics Society”, which will empower the next generation of student leaders under the WFO umbrella, fostering a vibrant culture of voluntary participation and global engagement.
Looking ahead, anticipation is building for the “10th International Orthodontic Congress” in Rio de Janeiro in 2025. This landmark event promises to unite thought leaders and visionaries to chart the future course of our specialty, celebrating educational excellence and strategic outreach on a global stage.
This year’s “webinar series” has been a cornerstone of our efforts, delivering cutting-edge knowledge and sparking insightful discussions. We are eager to expand this platform further in 2025, offering even more dynamic and impactful content for our members. JWFO as a journal is growing from strength to strength -establishing itself as Q1 journal across platforms.
“Orthodontics is more than a healthcare specialty; it is a blessing to transform lives. Each smile we craft empowers confidence, fosters self-esteem, and shapes futures. As stewards of this noble profession, let us remain steadfast in our mission to heal, inspire, and uplift with every decision we make and every patient we treat.”
At the heart of our mission lies an unwavering resolve to uphold the highest professional standards and advocate for orthodontics on a global scale. Every initiative, every achievement, is a testament to your expertise, passion, and support. Together, we have built a legacy of excellence that will continue to inspire future generations.
As we step into 2025, let us carry forward the transformative power of orthodontics with renewed hope, determination, and unity. Thank you for your invaluable contributions to our shared vision.
With warm fraternal regards,
Prof. Nikhillesh Vaiid
President, World Federation of Orthodontists
