11th APOC to be held in Boracay, Philippines in 2018
The 11th Asian Pacific Orthodontic Conference (APOC) will be held March 4-7, 2018, in Boracay, Philippines. Organized by the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society (APOS) and hosted by the Association of Philippine Orthodontists (APO), the APOC promises to be an eclectic mix of scientific exchange, fraternal interactions and social events on Boracay's white sand beaches. “The event will be a convention to remember for a long time," said Dr. Martin Reyes, president of the APO.
Dr. Jose Manuel Rivera, the APOC organizing chair, expects 800 to 1,000 delegates to attend. The speakers include Dr. Ravindra Nanda, Dr. Peter Ngan and Dr. Young Guk Park, as well as many other renowned orthodontists from Asia and abroad. Dr. Allan Thom, WFO president, will be the chief guest at the inaugural event.
An event geared to postgraduate students will also be part of the APOC. "The 2nd APOS Residents Forum will be held March 4 in Boracay," said Dr. Bryce Lee, president of the APOS. This is the first time a residents’ forum is being organized alongside the APOC. We expect 100 residents from around the globe to present their work and socially interact with each other. The Congress will award the best presentations."
In a unique initiative, the APOC and the APOS have an "outreach partner," the Boracay National High School. The school will receive donations from the conference profits. Dr. Lee, APOS Secretary General Dr. Roberto Tan, Dr. Rivera and Dr. Nikhilesh Vaid, the immediate past president of APOS and a member of the WFO Executive Committee, visited the school during a site visit to Boracay in March 2017.
The APOS invites colleagues from across the world to mark their calendars for this event. Boracay is an island city that can be accessed via flights to Caticlan. Delegates need to fly to Manila and then book domestic flights to Caticlan.
